ABOUT ABOUT

Adult Workshops is a series of specially designed classes for adults, delivered to you by the Museum of Life and Science in partnership with our favorite Triangle-area experts. Dive in deep and explore the science behind some of your favorite things, and come away with tips from the pros for ways to build your skill on your own. Enroll in individual workshops or sign up for the full series. **Participants must be 21+.

In our second series, explore the science of honeybees in an in-depth study of beekeeping, gardening for bees, and working with honey in the kitchen.

Bees & Honey 101: Beginner Beekeeping Saturday, March 24 2:00-3:30pm @ Museum of Life and Science

Are you curious about becoming a beekeeper? Get an introduction to the science of the honeybee with help from the Bayer Bee Care Center, and learn about what goes into maintaining a bee hive. Visit the Museum's apiary and observe the installation of a new colony of bees into a hive, weather permitting (options to observe from a distance, borrow protective gear, or bring your own to wear).

Bees & Honey 201: Gardening for Bees Sunday, April 15th 2:00-4:00pm @ Museum of Life and Science

How do you feed a bee? Learn about local native plants that serve as good food sources and habitat for bees and other pollinators. Work with the Museum's manager of horticulture to learn about how we maintain our pollinator habitat areas, and make plans for planting a pollinator garden of your own. Participants go home with a set of plant starts.

Bees & Honey 301: Making with Honey Sunday, April 22 12:00-3:30pm @ Durham Cooperative Extension & Honeygirl Meadery

One thing we love about bees – honey! Start the workshop downtown at the Durham County Cooperative Extension's Teaching Kitchen for a Cooking with Honey demonstration and lunch, and take home copies of the recipes. Then we will move to downtown Durham's own Honeygirl Meadery, to get a tour of the facility and learn about making honey wine. Meadery tour includes samples and a Honeygirl wine glass. *Lunch will have a vegetarian option. Please contact us to inquire about other dietary concerns before purchasing your ticket at [email protected].
